Drums: Time and Groove

This class will concentrate on exercises and ways of developing a solid sense of time/groove. Also rhythms that every working drummer should be familiar with regardless of the style of music you play. Class will include recorded examples, demonstration, and written handouts (being able to read is helpful but not required).


Alex Aspinal  is a native of northern California and has been playing drums for over 17 years. He loves playing and listening to all types of music.  Alex has a BA in Music from Sonoma State University where he graduated in 2002 with distinction in the field of jazz.  While at SSU Alex studied with jazz great and polyrhythm expert George Marsh.  Alex has also studied with Harold Jones, Akira Tana, Eddie Marshal, Kendrick Freeman, Dave Brady, Friday Jumbo (Fela and The Africa 70), and at The Drummer's Collective in New York City.

 
Alex can currently be heard with the Randy Vincent Quartet, The John Kallen Group, Shea Breaux Wells, Lee Press On and the Nails, and Michael LaMacchia.  Alex has also performed with; Kathleen Grace, Dave Macnab, Chris Amberger, Barry Finnerty, Mel Graves, Smith Dobson, Rusty Evans, Gentry Bronson, James Mosley, Mad and Eddie Duran, Ben Zeff, and many others.
