Master Class:

Practical Wizardry on Bass

With Edo Castro

edo.jpgThis is a seminar on learning chord structures, reading chord symbols, learning what they mean and applying them to your daily practice.  The fundamental skill of bass playing is understanding chords.  You don't need to know how to read music to know this, but you do have to have some skills on your instrument, be able to count, and remember patterns.

The goals of the class are:

  • Knowing what a half step and whole step is on your fingerboard.
  • Knowing the names of the root (starting notes)
  • How to play arpeggios. (Broken chord patterns)
  • How to read chord symbols, Not to freak out when you see a chord chart. (even if there are written notes!) and how to play them on your bass
  • Apply this knowledge to your daily practice

Edo Castro is an SF Bay Area bassist/composer/solo bassist whose musical experience spans 30 years.  As a sideman, his bass playing has graced over 20 albums in the last 17 years.  Edo's second CD Phoenix was accepted to the Grammy nomination list in the Contemporary Jazz category.
