**Vocalist Performance Class*
With Lynn Asher and Andy Dudnick! The class is a 8-week session with a concert at the Larkspur Café Theater on the 8th week. This class is limited to 5 students, with one vocalist teacher (Lynn) and one accompanist (Andy, on piano). Presentation, style, story-telling, phrasing, arrangements, key selection, chart preparation, song form, song selection, mic technique and other significant aspects of singing popular music are explored. Each student will have an opportunity to work on up to four songs (from a large and varied list of jazz and rock, pop & r&b tunes from a list provided by Andy and Lynn) with the goal of developing two or three tunes, to perform (accompanied by Andy on piano) at the Larkspur Café Theatre at the end of the semester. Each class consists of each of the students singing at least two of his/her selected tunes, with constructive suggestions offered by Lynn in front of the group, so that all participants benefit in a helpful and meaningful way from the suggestions and ideas Lynn has for each singer/performer. Each class also includes a “surprise group song” which is sung by the entire class, with a final group song to be chosen and performed during the final concert at the Larkspur Café Theater. Specific lessons are tailored to the experience, needs and interests of the group. THIS WAS A HUGELY POPULAR CLASS last semester and space is limited, so you are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to sign up ASAP if you want to participate. 20 % discount to all students in another class this se-mester.
Announcing a NEW VOCALIST class
"SING WITH A TRIO", open to those who have taken the Vocalist Performance Class with Lynn Asher and Andy Dudnick. We're taking the vocalist training to a new level this semester!
Sing With a Trio is a new vocalist class being offered this semester for the first time by Crossroads. Participants will have the opportunity to sing and perform with a hot trio -- piano (Andy Dudnick), bass (Daniel Fusco) and drums (Jim Castrone) while being taught performance technique and other important aspects of singing and vocalization by Lynn with assistance from Andy. YOU MUST HAVE TAKEN THE VOCALIST PERFORMANCE CLASS in order to participate in this "graduate level" program.
Sing with a Trio will feature a similar format to the Vocalist Training and Performance Class but will be limited to 4 students. (If there is enough interest we may have two classes.) The class will be an 8 week session with seven 2-hour classes and a recital at the Sweetwater Station at the end. All significant aspects of singing and performing will be covered, including song and key selection, performance techniques, chart preparation, working with musicians, and other aspects of singing popular music. All tunes which are appropriate for a piano trio will also be considered. The first three classes will feature just Lynn and Andy as we make sure the tunes (and keys) are proper for trio performance, get the charts prepared, and get each of you ready for singing with the trio. Then, the next four classes you'll be "swingin' with the trio" -- YEAH!
Each student will focus on two songs to be selected prior to the class from a list of hundreds of tunes provided by Andy and Lynn. We are going to dig deeper this time, and we want you to select two songs you know "cold", as the focus of the class is on performance and singing technique, not learning new tunes. Our goal will be to get these tunes finely honed and performance ready for the recital at the end, and in the process, to provide intensive lessons into the very heart of professional singing.
Similar to the Vocalist Performance Class, each student will take turns singing his or her tunes, and have the benefit of the constructive suggestions offered by Lynn in front of the group, so that everyone benefits from the suggestions Lynn has for each individual performer. Some of our Vocalist Performance Class participants have told us that much of their greatest learning has come from listening to Lynn's suggestions to the other singers.
Lynn and Andy are very excited to offer this new program and to take the vocalists to the next level. We expect this class to fill up very quickly and encourage you to respond ASAP if you want to participate. We expect this will be a hugely popular class (as the Vocalist Performance Classes have been -- please see the testimonials about that class on the Crossroads web site). It will be "first come first served" so sign up -- and sing up -- right away! The cost of this class will be $400 per participant, in order to cover the cost of providing professional trio accompaniment.
